A native of County Leitrim, Michael's first interest in aviation developed when he became a member of the Limerick Flying Club in the late 1970's. There he trained for his Private Pilot's Licence. While in Limerick he researched his first book, 'Through the clouds over Limerick - a history of aviation in Limerick'.
He later moved to Dublin and joined the Dublin Airport Flying Club - based at the Iona ramp. For the past 15 years he has been a committed member of that club. He still enjoys flying club aircraft at home and abroad.
His research into his second book 'IONA - Ireland's First Commercial Airline' commenced in May 2000.
Michael lives in Rathfarnham, Dublin with his wife Anne and their five children - Ross, Dáire, Aisling, Cian and Odhrán.
